Thank you for visiting the website of USA Taekwondo Association for the Disabled (Para-Taekwondo/Paralympics, Deaflympics, Special Olympics).  My name is Grandmaster Soon Pil Hong, Ph.D.  I am the President of the Pan-American Taekwondo Federation © for the Disabled (PATFD) (Disabled means Para-Taekwondo/Paralympics, Deaflympics, and Special Olympics) and the USA Taekwondo Association for the Disabled (USATAD) for all 50 states.

 The following information will give you some insight into the background of Grandmaster Soon Pil Hong, Ph.D., the President of the Pan-American Taekwondo Federation for the Disabled and the USA Taekwondo Association for the Disabled:

1.    I started my Taekwondo career back in 1968.
2.   9th Degree Black Belt in Jidokwan and Ohdokwan.
3.   Received Legal Grandmaster Instructor Para-Taekwondo License - 1st Class.
4.   Para-Taekwondo Referee - 1st Class (Paralympics, Deaflympics, Special Olympics): from the  
      Korea Taekwondo Association for the Disabled - Member of the International Paralympic
      Committee.
5.   World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) International Referee Sparring - 1st Class.
6.   World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) International Referee Poomsaes/Forms - 3rd Class.
7.   Kukkiwon International Referee Hanmadang - 2nd Class.
8.   July 2011 appointed Kukkiwon Advisory.
9.   USA Taekwondo (member of US Olympic Committee).

      (White Belt)  thru Hansoo (8th Degree Black Belt).
12.  1993 WTF World Taekwondo Championship - Sparring Coach.
13.  1994 - WTF World Cup (Grand Cayman Island) International Taekwondo Referee - Sparring.
14.  1997 - Received International Referee of the Year at US Olympic Center.
15.  1999 - Received Best US National Taekwondo Sparring Team  Training Coach for US Olympic
       Team Members.
16.  2004 - Kukkiwon Hanmadang - 1st Place Middle School & High School Synchronized
      Poomsaes/Forms.
17.  1989 thru 2006 - Served as Faculty Instructor for Physical Education/Life Fitness:
      Taekwondo/Self Defense at Southwestern Michigan College (Dowagiac & Niles, Michigan) - 
      8 credits/4 years.
18.  2010 - Trained Korea National Poomsae (WTF Forms) Champion.
19.  2010 thru 2012 U.S. Open Championships (65 countries participated).  U.S. National Taekwondo
       Championships in  Jose, CA was one of them.  Sanctioned by USA Taekwondo - Taught Taegeug Il
       Jang (Yellow Belt Form) thru Hansoo (8th Degree Black Belt Form) WTF/Kukkiwon Poomsaes at
      various seminars - produced many US National Champions.   Black Belts, ranging from 1st
      Degree Black Belt to 9th Degree Black Belt came from all across the USA to attend the seminars.
20. 2011 (June) - Instructed a Kukkiwon Poomsae (Master & Grandmaster Forms) Seminar in
      Atlanta, Georgia: Sanctioned by USA Taekwondo & Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Headquarters in
      South Korea.   The attendees were all 4th Degree thru 8th Degree Black Belts.
21.  2013 (May) - Position of Referee Chairman during the US National Kukkiwon Cup in Albany,
      New York.  The event was sanctioned by USA Taekwondo (member of the United States Olympic
      Committee) and also was recognized by Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Headquarters in South
​      Korea.

22. Honored with receiving Honorary Prosecutor & St. Joseph County Sheriff (Indiana State)
      Citation/Badge.
23.  Interpreter & translator for the 5th Judicial District Court (State of Michigan).
24.  Attended the University of Notre Dame R.O.T.C. (Notre Dame, Indiana).
25.  Awarded two(2) US Army Achievement Medals.
26.  Received US Army Good Conduct Medal.
27.   1984 - US Army Boxing Champion.
28.  2013 - The State of Michigan appointed Grandmaster S.P. Hong as Physical Education Teacher
       for Elementary, Middle, and High School Students.
29.  I am in still strong contact with my teacher in Seoul, South Korea - Grandmaster Lee, Byung-
      Chae -  9th Dan/Degree Black Belt.  He is the President of Disabled Taekwondo Korea.

30.  Grandmaster Soon Phil Hong 9th Dan (Degree) Black Belt is the Founder of Kukkiwon Para-
       Paralympic,
Deaflympic and Special Olympic Kukkiwon Taekwondo Dan (Black Belt).

31.   In September 1, 2014: USATAD sign a Memorandum of Understanding Contract (M.O.U.) with t
       the Kukkiwon World Ta
ekwondo Headquarters, South Korea for Kukkiwon Dan (Black Belt
       Degree) Test.

32.  2015 - Grandmaster S.P. Hong Received U.S. National Taekwondo Coach Levels 1 & 2
       Certification from USA Taekwondo (Member of the U.S. Olympic Committee)

33.  Grandmaster S. P. Hong (9th Dan) offers Taekwondo Jidokwan Korea Dan Testing.

34.  Grandmaster S.P. Hong received 9th Dan/Degree Black belt for Korea Taekwondo Association for
       the Disabled - Affiliated with the International Paralympic Committee.
35.  Grandmaster S.P. Hong received Grandmaster Instructor Legal License 1st Class.
36.  I am a Paralympic/Deaflympic/Special Olympic Referee - 1st Class (USA Taekwondo - Member of
       US Olympic Committee).
37.  President of the USA Taekwondo Indiana State Taekwondo Association.


​38. December 23, 2016 Grandmaster S.P. Hong, while on a trip to Seoul, South Korea, tested for and
      received his certification for 9th Degree Black Belt in Habgido(Hapkido) from World Hapkido
      Martial Arts Federation AND 9th Degree Black Belt in Gumdo(Kumdo) from the World Kumdo
​      Martial Arts Federation.  Grandmaster Choi Don-Oh is the President of both organization.
      Grandmaster Hong is now 9th Degree times three(3)!!!!

39. December 23, 2016, Grandmaster S.P. Hong, while on a trip to Seoul, South Korea, was also
      appointed by President: Grandmaster Choi Don-Oh, of the World Hapkido Martial Arts
      Federation & of the World Kumdo Martial Arts Federation, to be an International Dan Test
      Examiner.  Both of these organizations are recognized by the Government of the Republic of
      South Korea for over 40 years.

USA Taekwondo Association for the Disabled (USATAD) is Non-Profit organization recognized by Taekwondo Jidokwan Korea.   The USATAD is not an independent Paralympic organization. 

The USATAD can offer the following:

1) Paralympics/Deaflympics/Special Olympics(forms) Special Needs Color
    Belts #1 (Il Jang) through #8 (Pahl Jang).  We also offer Special Needs
    Black Belt Poomsaes - Koryo(1st Degree), Geumgang(2nd Degree), and
    Taebaeg(3rd Degree).


2) International Referee Paralympic/Deaflympic/Special Olympic Hand
    Signals for Sparring.


3) International Black Belt (Dan/Degree) Rank for Abled & Disabled
    Taekwondo (
Paralympics/Deaflympics/Special Olympics), from Taekwondo
    Jidokwan Korea.


                      USATAD State Presidents will receive the following benefits:

1.  Seminar Fees will be divided as follows -> USATAD National
     Headquarters - 60%, USATAD State Associations - 40%.
2. Dan Certification Fees will be divided as follows -> Taekwondo Jidokwan
    Korea - 60%, USATAD National Headquarters -  13.34%, USATAD State
    Associations - 13.33%, and Disabled  Taekwondo Korea - 13.33%.
3. All Individual and State Club fees will go to the USATAD National
    Headquarters.
SPECIAL NOTICE

During a recent visit to the United States (October 27 - November 4, 2016), the USATAD had special guests from South Korea.  Members of the Gyeonggido State Taekwondo Association Board of Directors, came to sign a memorandum of Understanding (M.O.U.) with the USA Taekwondo Association for the Disabled (Paralympic/Deaflympic/Special Olympic).  The Gyeonggido State Taekwondo Association is affiliated with the International Olympic Committee, International Paralympic Committee, Korea Taekwondo Association, and Kukkiwon.
